Scoliosis is a three-dimensional curvature and rotation of the spine. In adults, scoliosis may be long-standing from adolescence, age-related, or associated with spinal degeneration, muscle imbalance, postural adaptation, pain, stiffness or altered movement. Not every scoliosis causes pain, but even mild or moderate spinal asymmetry can contribute to uneven loading through the back, ribs, pelvis, shoulders and neck.
At Sayer Clinics London, scoliosis and postural rehabilitation are assessed carefully rather than treated as a simple “posture problem”. The aim is not to make unrealistic claims about straightening an adult spine, but to improve spinal mobility, muscular control, pain, function, balance and postural endurance. NHS medical guidance similarly notes that exercise may not correct the curve itself in adults, but may help pain and function.
What patients may notice
Patients may present with uneven shoulders, rib prominence, pelvic imbalance, one-sided back pain, neck tension, reduced flexibility, fatigue when standing, or pain aggravated by prolonged sitting or desk work.
Assessment and treatment
Your initial consultation includes a full medical history, spinal and postural examination, neurological and orthopaedic testing where appropriate, and digital X-rays if clinically indicated and fully consented. Treatment may include chiropractic spinal and pelvic work, rib and thoracic mobility treatment, massage and soft-tissue therapy, postural retraining, breathing mechanics, strengthening exercises and practical advice for work, sleep and daily movement.
Sayer Clinics’ approach is detailed, whole-body and clinically reasoned: the spine, pelvis, ribs, shoulders and muscular control system are assessed together.
Your first consultation includes a full medical history, clinical examination, diagnosis, consented digital X-ray where clinically indicated, first treatment session and clear aftercare advice. Treatment is always adapted to your condition, examination findings, medical history and comfort level. Where symptoms suggest a condition requiring medical investigation, we will advise appropriate referral.
